International Year of Languages 2008

(Official UNESCO poster, used with permission)

The year 2008 was declared the International Year of Languages by the United Nations General Assembly in a resolution adopted on 16 May 2007. UNESCO is the UN agency responsible for coordinating activities.

On this website, hosted by the QUT Languages Centre, you will find a calendar of events which should be of interest to students, teachers and members of the public with an interest in languages. The events listed are mainly relevant for people living in south-east Queensland, and more specifically, in Brisbane. There is also a list of news articles which have appeared in the press this year and which focus on language issues . This list will be updated during the year.
