Facilitators

QUT Careers and Employment

Col McCowan - Col is a registered psychologist, teacher and guidance counsellor. He is Manager of QUT's Careers and Employment section. He has also worked in senior roles in government and private practice. Col is on the Editorial Board of the Australian Journal of Career Development and has published a number of books on career planning. He has also worked with two UNESCO consultancies in the careers and employment field.

Alan McAlpine - Alan is the postgraduate careers counsellor at QUT. He has worked with students on career development in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. Alan completed a PhD in Biochemistry and worked as a scientist until the mid 1990s. A career change took him into career development. His first venture into the career field was in the delivery of experiential programs for PhD students in the UK. He arrived in Australia in 2000 and worked as a consultant helping individuals both in and out of organisations move forward in their careers. He set up a postgraduate career service for the University of Auckland prior to coming to QUT in a similar role. His passions are in helping individuals understand themselves better in both the academic and corporate world to enable them to make better informed career choices.

Greg Thorne - Greg is a registered psychologist and the career counsellor at Carseldine Campus. He is also a sport psychologist for the Australian Institute of Sport Squash Program. Prior to joining QUT Greg was the Coordinator of Athlete Career and Education with the Western Australian Institute of Sport. He is interested in helping people to make good life direction and life balance decisions, and to achieve their goals in all areas of their lives.

Karen Meiklejohn - Karen joined the QUT careers team in 2006. She worked as a career counsellor in secondary schools for fours years and as a career advisor at the Queensland Academy of Sport prior to her current role. Karen has 13+ years experience in university-school liaison which means that she knows a lot about university admission via QTAC and upgrading pathways as well as course options and graduate outcomes. Karen moved into career counselling because she wants to help people make informed and personally meaningful career decisions.

Information Technology Services

Kim Hauville - Kim is a Senior Corporate Systems Developer in the Learning and Teachning Information Technology Group within the Information Technology Services Department at QUT. She has a background in Information Technology and Behavioural Science and seven years experience in the IT industry. Kim has been involved in the development of the QUT Student Portfolio since its inception and currently leads the design and technical development for this project.

Wendy Harper - Wendy is the Intranet Services Manager at QUT. She has been involved in areas such as desktop support and supervision of technical support staff. She heads up the systems development group which is accountable for QUT Virtual, a sophisticated Internet information system, which is the connection between students and corporate services at QUT.

Volunteering Queensland (VQ)

Mark Creyton - Mark is Manager of Education and Research at VQ. He has more than 15 years experience as an educator and consultant working with a range of voluntary and non-profit organisations and groups. Mark specialises in the areas of non-profit and community leadership, community participation, and personal and organisational wellness. He facilitates a range of projects and workshops to develop more effective leadership. He has worked with more than 5,000 community and non-profit projects and is the Queensland consultant for the Australian Journal of Volunteering.

Alito Business Ignition

Jeremy Hallyar - Jeremy has 12 years of professional experience in developing and guiding new ventures and SMEs. In 1996, he became involved in his first start-up company, a multimedia business, identifying early the opportunities and pitfalls arising from the new online media. Jeremy has helped steer numerous start-ups and fast growing companies through the most challenging stages of their development, enabling them to thrive and compete in some of the toughest market sectors. His valuable first-hand experience coupled with extensive studies gives him a rare insight into the opportunities and hurdles facing business owners, managers and entrepreneurs.

Keith Matson - Keith has 20 years professional experience in business startups and turnaround management. He has taken five of his own ideas through to profitable commercialisation and turned a $30 million turnover loss company into a very profitable $50 million turnover company in 11 months. His areas of interest include entrepreneurship programs, organisational change, leadership coaching, strategy and innovation, and training and development.

Integris HRC Group

Allie Maclure - Allie has studied in London and Brisbane and has a Business degree in Marketing and Human Resource Management, and a postgraduate qualification in Management. Whilst studying part-time she built two business utilising her skills in marketing, HR and recruitment, and business development. After completing her studies she moved into brand development and business development with MNC—Diageo. This included marketing management for well known brands such as Bundy, Stoli, Baileys and Johnny Walker. A career change concentrating purely on HRM and recruitment led to Allie working with the market leading HR and Recruitment firm Morgan & Banks in Candidate Management and Senior Consultant. For the past seven years she has honed her skills in talent management (HR and recruitment services) and career management (career coaching). Allie has worked with thousands of job seekers and organisations from small to multinational in both the private and public sectors. She is now the Director of the IHRC Group (Integris HRC Group) comprising of MarComms Careers, Credentials International, and CareerCoach. As specialists in talent and career management, the IHRC Group provides innovative, results driven services to clients and candidates internationally.

HR Advantage

Leonie Horrigan - Leonie has more than 12 years experience as an organisational psychologist, organisational development consultant, and manager. She has held a variety of management and senior management positions in human resources, organisational development, and strategic planning across the university and government sectors. Her substantial first-hand experience of the challenges and rewards of senior management, combined with her experience as an organisational psychologist, means that Leonie knows how to achieve powerful and sustainable results for organisations.

Dreamworld

Stephen McGarrigle - Stephen is the Team Development and Training Manager at Dreamworld, Queensland's No. 1 Tourist Attraction. He is responsible for the design and facilitation of learning and development strategies for staff involved in Food & Beverage, Guest Services, Sales and Marketing, Security, Wildlife, Engineering and Technical, and Attractions and Entertainment. Stephen is also involved in projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of work teams, organisational development and the positioning of Dreamworld as an "Employer of Choice" and a Best Practice "Learning Organisation". In 2002, he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to undertake a comparative analysis of International Leadership Development Programs in non-profit settings.

Creative Intelligence Agency

Lloyd Bond - Lloyd is a globally acclaimed master 'imagineer' whose creative genius has transformed more than 1000 project challenges into commercial winners. He is a leader in the fields of corporate and individual creative intelligence learning, innovation and infrastructure implementation. His editorial, marketing and creative roles have included senior positions in News Limited and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. He and his company CIA (Creative Intelligence Agency) provide training programs and workshops in all areas of organisation creative intelligence diagnostics, creative profiling, pedigreed branding, creative and conceptual strategising and evaluation.

QUT Faculty of Business, School of Marketing, Advertising & Public Relations

William Hatherell - Dr Bill Hatherell is a Lecturer in the School of Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations at QUT. He holds a PhD in Cultural History and a Master of Business in Organisational Communication. He has lectured extensively in the areas of academic, professional and public relations writing and is a published freelance writer and reviewer. Before embarking on his academic career, Bill held the position of Executive Officer to the QUT Vice-Chancellor, a role which involved research and policy development, speechwriting, journalistic writing and a range of organisational communication activities.

QUT Faculty of Health, School of Human Movement Studies

Bob Boyd - Bob is a lecturer in the School of Human Movement Studies at QUT. His main teaching and research interests lie in connection the the School's Practicum Experience Program, the fitness requirements of Queensland Ambulance Officer recruits, Workplace Wellness Promotion and University Student Wellness. He is a member of the School’s Clinic Advisory Committee and Teaching, Learning and Courses Committee, as well as being Co-Director of the QUT Staff Wellness Program. Bob is a Fellow and Committee Member of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation; a Committee Member of the Professional Experiences in Professional Education group; and member of the National Wellness Association. Bob is currently seconded to the QUT Human Resources Department as Wellness Manager.

QUT Creative Industries Faculty, Media and Communication

Lesley Irvine - Lesley is a speech teacher and journalist. She has worked as a newsreader at Brisbane radio 4KQ and as an information officer with Education Queensland where her roles included speech writing, voice over talent and facilitating media training workshops throughout the State. Lesley currently tutors in Strategic Speech Communication at QUT and operates a private speech studio where she specialises in public speaking, presentation and broadcast skills.

Toastmasters

Judy Dale - Judy is the Metropolitan Division Governor within Toastmasters International District 69. Toastmasters is an international organisation devoted to developing people's public and interpersonal communication skills. Through participation in Toastmasters people can learn to speak, conduct meetings, manage a department or business, lead, delegate and motivate more effectively. As Division Governor, Judy oversees the expansion of the program in the Metropolitan area.

QUT Equity Section

Gabrielle O’Brien - Gabrielle has extensive experience in the higher education sector in marketing and communication roles. As a member of the QUT Equity team she provides training on a range of equity issues such as discrimination, equality and cultural diversity.
