The Quest for Eve: In Search of Episodic Volunteering Experiences
by Leonie Bryen
forward by Sha Cordingley
Published 2007 by Community Books Australia
Recommended Retail: AU$15.00
This thought provoking parable will take you less than an hour to read, but will serve as a wake up call to the changing face of modern volunteers & volunteering. Highlighting the emerging trend of episodic or short term volunteering, it points to the increasing likelihood of volunteers to shop around for suitable opportunities. With Australia experiencing a surge in volunteering numbers, it’s essential that CEO’s, volunteer managers and the boards of nonprofit organisations come to terms with these changes to ensure a robust and vibrant volunteering future for Australia.
'In this lively and engaging short story, Leonie Bryen uses the immediacy and accessibility of the fictional form to punch home some important truths about the changing nature of volunteering and the need for volunteer-involving organisations to ‘adapt or die’. It should be required reading for all volunteer managers'.
