The Faculty of Business Course Quality Assurance system has four major elements:
- A formal system of Faculty committees aimed at providing advice to the Dean on all aspects of course development, implementation and evaluation. The primary committees are:
- the Faculty Academic Board, chaired by the Dean (and its sub-committee, the Faculty Education Committee, chaired by the Assistant Dean)
- the Faculty Advisory Committee comprising the Chairs of the School Advisory Committees and Assistant Dean
- Each School within the Faculty has a teaching and learning committee whose major concern is to provide advice to the Head of School in regard to the teaching and learning activities of the School, focused on the units for which the School is responsible. In addition, each School has a School Advisory Committee that includes external members representing relevant professions and disciplines. These groups provide invaluable feedback and advice on School proposals with a view to achieving the highest possible standards for all courses and units for which the Faculty is responsible. The Chair of each School’s Teaching and Learning Committee contributes to the Faculty governance of its teaching and learning activity through their membership of Faculty Education Committee
- the Directors of Study, who act as the course coordinators for one or more of the courses offered by the Faculty and who are supervised by and report to, the Assistant Dean. Their duties and responsibilities are specified in the Manual of Policy and Procedures (Policy B/3.5.3 Course coordinator) http://www.mopp.qut.edu.au/B/B_03_05.html
- the School-based subject area coordinators and unit coordinators, working with the relevant Director of Study and Assistant Dean, reporting to their relevant Head of School. Subject area coordinator and unit coordinator duties are specified in the Manual of Policy and Procedures (Policy B/3.5.4 Subject area coordinator and Policy B/3.56 Unit coordinator) http://www.mopp.qut.edu.au/B/B_03_05.html
Faculty Course Reports and Academic Program Report
The Faculty Course Reports are facilitated by the Faculty Directors of Studies and subject area coordinators who constitute the Course Team for all Faculty courses. Each Faculty Director of Studies is responsible for the compiling (in conjunction with the subject area coordinators) the draft annual Course Report for each course for which he or she is responsible, to be developed on behalf of and submitted to, the Faculty Education Committee. In turn, as required by the University, the Course Reports form the basis of the Faculty Academic Program Report which is prepared by the Assistant Dean.
The Course Team consults widely with all Heads of School, School-based Subject Area Coordinators, and other appropriate parties in the development of the annual Course Reports. Each report contains:
- a proposed Course Plan for each year ahead containing a set of performance targets and relevant indicators for each of the designated courses, bearing in mind the most recent Faculty Course Report, University and Faculty plans, targets and indicators, as well as other relevant factors. The draft Course Plan is submitted to all School Advisory Committees within the Faculty, prior to submission to the Faculty Education Committee.
- The Assistant Dean then prepares an overall summary of the Faculty’s academic program performance drawing on the Course Reports. The Faculty Academic Program Report is forwarded to Faculty Academic Board for approval after ratification by the Faculty Education Committee.
- The Faculty Academic Program Report is submitted to the Faculty Academic Board before being forwarded to the University Teaching and Learning Committee and University Academic Board.
