Improving learning outcome for First Year Experience students: Can teaching and learning interventions improve student performances in written tasks?

The objective of this study is to improve student learning outcomes in the First Year Experience Program by implementing strategies and interventions which are based on sound theoretical frameworks.  It is also envisaged the results of the study will be used to develop recommendations for enhancing the business curriculum.

The effectiveness of alternative tutorial preparation assessment methods

The objective of this study is to empirically examine the effectiveness of alternative methods of assessing students’ preparedness for tutorials in the School of Accountancy that currently includes: in-class ‘show and mark’ of assignment attempt; ‘collection and grade’ of assignment attempt and an in-class quiz.  This project will principally involve a survey of students in relation to tutorial preparation assessment which will assist in the development of enhanced learning outcomes.

Embedding a ‘critical thinking’ process throughout the learning and teaching of Management and Organisation theory (MGB222)

This project was motivated by the need for students to have sufficient opportunities to apply finance theory to practical problems.  Excel provides a useful tool to operationalise such theories and test important ideas.

An inventory of assessment regimes in undergraduate units

Description

The benefit of experiential learning is widely accepted.  Experiential learning is particularly useful in teaching international business, as students can be provided a variety of international business settings to give them an appreciation for grappling with internationalisation problems (an authentic learning experience) and thus better prepare them for the dynamic international workplace.

This project aims to achieve two outcomes:

  1. Developing two audio visual case studies and
  2. Embedding the cases within the curriculum to enhance student engagement with learning.
