QUT (including its predecessor institutions) has been preparing graduates for careers in Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations for over 30 years, and is regarded as an industry leader in education in these fields. In fact QUT was the first Australian university to offer a degree level course in Advertising, over a decade before any other university. More recently, Integrated Marketing Communications continues this tradition of providing innovative industry relevant courses.

Goal

The goal of this School is to capitalise on the natural synergy between marketing, public relations and advertising, and to design and develop programs and undertake research relevant to these professions. The School also hosts the Faculty's international business programs.

The academic staff of the School deliver a complete range of award and non-award courses in the School's six discipline areas, including:

Real World Orientation

Like all programs at QUT, ours reflect a 'real world' orientation with many units including case studies, client projects, organisational simulations, practitioner lectures, and internships in the learning experience. We focus on providing discipline-specific learning as well as the generic skills of critical thinking, problem solving, and oral and written communication. At the undergraduate level, we focus on helping learners get their first full-time position while equipping them with the skills and perspectives that will serve them well throughout their careers. Our programs are also aimed at learners who are seeking advanced skills in their profession or who are considering a career change as well as those seeking to develop teaching and research careers in our specialist disciplines.

Mission

The Mission of the School of Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations is to help students, staff, industry and our disciplines (advertising, international business, marketing, public relations, integrated marketing communication, and events marketing and management) develop through providing an integrated and supportive learning, research and service environment.

Vision

The Vision of the School of Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations is to be the destination of choice for students, staff and industry for undergraduate and postgraduate study in advertising, international business, marketing, public relations, integrated marketing communication, and events marketing and management in Australia.

Strengths & Focus

Our School has a distinguished record of achievement in research, teaching and community service. We have a major emphasis on research culture and teaching in the areas of advertising, marketing, public relations, integrated marketing communication, events marketing and management, and international business programs.

We maintain strong links with a number of Australian and international industry and professional bodies and encourage our staff to actively engage with the community through professional service, consultancy and collaborative research.

Our students experience the real world practice of their chosen discipline area through a variety of learning experiences, including practitioner lectures, case studies, client projects, market simulations and internships and can internationalise their experience through overseas student exchange programs.
