The QUT Accounting in High Schools Program

Would you like to start your QUT university career while still in Year 12?

Study the Accounting unit BSB110 at high school and experience the best of both worlds!

The Accounting in High Schools program was first offered by QUT School of Accountancy in 2001. Since then many high school students have passed the unit and continued their university career at QUT.

Why Study Accounting at QUT?

Accounting is a faculty core unit in all the majors of the Bachelor of Business degree at QUT. Studying this unit while you are in High School gives you the following benefits:

How does the program work?

The curriculum is provided by QUT staff to the students and teachers at the high school. The material is studied in the school environment.

You will also visit QUT for some lectures to get a taste of university life. Students will be officially enrolled as students at QUT, and the assessment in the unit is the same as that for first-year university students. You will be required to sit the mid-semester and final exams at QUT. On successful completion of the unit, you will have a first-year QUT unit on your academic record. This may be used as part of your future university studies.

Who can do this program?

Students who are currently in Year 12 and studying accounting can enrol in this program. Students who have achieved VHAs or HAs in their high school accounting subject are usually nominated by their teachers.

Testimonials

Kim Adams, Bachelor of Business (Accounting) student, QUT started her Business degree at high school.

The Accounting in High Schools program is fantastic!  I studied a core business unit (Accounting) for free whilst gaining an insight to Uni life by attending a couple of lectures towards the end. This helped ease my transition from school to Uni, and studying with my school friends made learning a lot easier. I also had one less subject to do when I started at QUT. QUT makes a tremendous effort to create contacts between students and high profile firms across Brisbane. This is preparing us for life – it’s not just a degree. Since starting my course, my passion for business has soared!

Dear Ros,

I just wanted to say thank you for all you have done to get us through the QUT Accounting in High Schools program. I have found it really great! I now know what to expect next year, especially when it comes to lectures and the set up for exam! I am someone who tends to stress a lot when it comes to going to new places and not knowing what to expect. It's good to get that stressing out of the way this year instead of next!

Thanks again.
Kind regards,
Aishlin Greig, B
